Zakes Mokae Biography
Zakes Makgona Mokae (5 August 1934 – 11 September 2009) was a South African-American actor known for his work in theatre and film. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mokae moved to the United Kingdom in 1961 and later to the United States in 1969. He began his acting career alongside playwright Athol Fugard, collaborating on Fugard's play, The Blood Knot, from 1961. Mokae's notable performances include his Tony Award-winning role in 'Master Harold'...and the Boys (1982) and his nomination for another Tony Award for The Song of Jacob Zulu (1993). He also appeared in films such as Darling (1965) and The Comedians (1967).
