In early twentieth-century London, Japanese exchange student Lili Ichijoin enrolls at Saint Thomas Art Academy to pursue painting under parental pressure to excel. There she meets aristocratic classmate Kit Church; their initial artistic rivalry evolves into a romantic relationship as Lili's persistence and sincerity reshape Kit's dedication to art.
