Adam Heller
Adam Heller (born June 25, 1933) is an Israeli American scientist and engineer. He is the Chief Science Officer of SynAgile Corp. and consults for Abbott Diabetes Care. Heller is also the Ernest Cockrell Sr. Chair Emeritus of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. In 1973, he co-authored a paper with James J. Auborn that established the feasibility of high energy density, high-voltage, non-rechargeable lithium batteries. These batteries, including the 3.6-volt lithium thionyl chloride and 3.7-volt lithium sulfuryl chloride, are still used in applications requiring strong energy density and long shelf life. Heller co-founded TheraSense Inc. in 1996, which developed the painless Freestyle micro-coulometric blood glucose assaying system. Abbott Laboratories acquired TheraSense in 2004 for $1.2 billion.
