    Adam Smethurst is an English actor and writer known for his appearances in various TV dramas including Casualty, Marple, and Lewis. He is the son of Love Thy Neighbour star Jack Smethurst. Smethurst met his future wife, fellow actor Rakie Ayola, during a production of Hamlet at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1998. Although there was initially no spark between them, they crossed paths again two years later during a production of Twelfth Night and eventually became a couple. Smethurst proposed to Ayola with a locket containing a scroll that read 'Will you marry me?'. They tied the knot in May 2004 and have two daughters together.
