Akin Omotoso

Akin Omotoso (born 1974) is a Nigerian film director, writer, and actor. He is best known for directing the 2022 film Rise. Both his father Kole Omotoso and his sister Yewande Omotoso are also writers. Omotoso grew up in Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, before emigrating to South Africa in 1992. He studied at the University of Cape Town and made his acting debut in Sunjata by Mark Fleishman. He gained recognition for his short films, The Kiss of Milk, The Nightwalkers, and The Caretaker, and wrote his first full-length film, God is African, released in 2003. Omotoso has since established a production company in South Africa.
