Albert Leornes Greene, professionally known as Al Green, is an American singer, songwriter, pastor, and record producer. Born on April 13, 1946, Green rose to fame in the early 1970s with a series of soul hit singles, including 'Take Me to the River,' 'Tired of Being Alone,' 'I'm Still in Love with You,' 'Love and Happiness,' and his signature song, 'Let's Stay Together.' Following a personal tragedy, Green became an ordained pastor and shifted his focus to gospel music. However, he later returned to secular music. Green has been recognized for his contributions to soul music and received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 11 Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the BMI Icon award.
