Alan Rickman Biography
Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman (21 February 1946 – 14 January 2016) was an English actor and director. He trained at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), performing in various modern and classical theatre productions. Rickman gained fame for his distinctive deep voice and notable performances. He received a Tony Award nomination for his role as the Vicomte de Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. In film, Rickman made his debut as Hans Gruber in Die Hard (1988) and won a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). He also received critical acclaim for his roles in Truly, Madly, Deeply (1991) and An Awfully Big Adventure (1995).
