Born on July 10, 1965, in San Francisco, he attended George Washington High School where he showcased his talent in acting by playing Randolph McAfee in the production of Bye Bye Birdie. He gained recognition for his role as Song Liling in the Broadway production of M. Butterfly, where he replaced B. D. Wong. Mapa's notable television appearances include Adam Benet on Half & Half, Suzuki St. Pierre on Ugly Betty, Vern on Desperate Housewives, and Renzo on Switched at Birth. He also co-hosted the reality dating show Transamerican Love Story and debuted in his own one-man show, Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy. Mapa is known for his versatile acting skills and comedic performances.
