Alessandra Ramos Makkeda (1981 - 2022) was a Brazilian human rights defender and LGBTQ+ activist. Born and raised in Brasilia, she later resided in Rio de Janeiro. Alessandra, a trans woman, dedicated her life to fighting discrimination and advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. She worked as a translator and interpreter proficient in multiple languages, including sign language. Alessandra played a pivotal role as a coordinator of the National Forum for Afro-Brazilian transgender individuals. In 2015, she helped organize the first National Black Trans Forum in Porto Alegre. Tragically, Alessandra passed away on May 15, 2022, in Brazil due to a sudden illness.
