Alex Lowe (Stewart Alexander Lowe, December 24, 1958 - October 5, 1999) was an American mountaineer known for his remarkable achievements in rock climbs, ice climbs, and mountains around the globe. His boundless enthusiasm, rigorous training routines, and significant ascents inspired a whole generation of climbers and explorers. Lowe tragically lost his life in an avalanche on Shishapangma, Tibet. Widely respected by his peers, Lowe excelled in all aspects of mountaineering, from rock and ice climbing to ski descents. His extraordinary upper body strength was a result of a daily exercise regimen that included 400 chin-ups and numerous push-ups. Lowe's legacy is honored by the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation.
