Alex Eugene Newell (born August 20, 1992) is an American actor and singer. They gained recognition for their role as Unique Adams on the Fox musical series Glee and Mo on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. In 2018, Newell starred as Asaka in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island. They made history by becoming the first openly nonbinary person to win a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, for their role in Shucked in 2023. Beyond acting, Newell has collaborated with artists such as Clean Bandit, Blonde, and The Knocks in their music career. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Newell attended Kipp Lynn Academy and later graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 2012.
