Alexis Smith

Alexis Smith (1921-1993) was a Canadian-born American actress and singer. She gained fame in the 1940s with her appearances in major Hollywood films. Smith had a successful career on Broadway in the 1970s, earning a Tony Award in 1972 for her role in the musical 'Follies.' Born in Penticton, British Columbia, Smith moved to Los Angeles at a young age. She attended Hollywood High School and made her professional debut as a ballet performer at the Hollywood Bowl. Smith was discovered by a Warner Bros. talent scout while acting in a school production at Los Angeles City College. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1939.
