Alfre Woodard is an American actress known for her strong-willed and dignified roles on stage and screen. Born on November 8, 1952, she has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including four Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Canadian Screen Awards. Woodard has also been nominated for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and two Grammy Awards. She was recognized by The New York Times in 2020 as one of 'The 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century.' In addition to her acting work, Woodard serves as a board member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She began her career in theater and made her film debut in Remember My Name (1978), ultimately earning an Academy Award nomination for her role in Cross Creek (1983). Woodard has appeared in notable films such as Grand Canyon (1991), Passion Fish (1992), Heart and Souls (1993), Crooklyn (1994), and many more.
