Alison La Placa (born December 16, 1959) is an American actress known for her recurring role as Joanna, Rachel's boss and Chandler's love interest on the popular TV show Friends. Born in Lincolnshire, Illinois, La Placa graduated from Stevenson High School before moving to Hollywood. She first gained attention as Elyse in the television sitcom version of Barry Levinson's film Diner, although the pilot was not picked up. La Placa went on to appear in the made-for-TV movie Listen to Your Heart (1983) and earned a regular spot on Suzanne Pleshette Is Maggie Briggs (1984). She also starred in the series Duet (1987-1989) and Open House (1989-1990) and appeared in the movie Madhouse (1990) alongside Kirstie Alley and John Larroquette. La Placa has made guest appearances on various series including ER, Cheers, Family Ties, and Desperate.
