Roman has held senior positions at Bon Appétit and Buzzfeed Food, and she was a columnist for New York Times Cooking. She is the author of multiple cookbooks, including the New York Times Bestseller Nothing Fancy (2019). Roman was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California. At the age of 19, she left the University of California, Santa Cruz, to pursue a career in the food industry, working in various restaurants across the United States.
