Alok Vaid-Menon, also known as ALOK, is an American writer, performance artist, and media personality. Born on July 1, 1991, Vaid-Menon identifies as gender non-conforming and transfeminine, using the singular they pronouns. They have gained recognition for their work in addressing violence against trans and gender non-conforming individuals, advocating for freedom from societal gender norms. Their creative work has been presented in more than 40 countries. Growing up in College Station, Texas, Vaid-Menon experienced bullying due to their race and gender expression. They have spoken about the challenges of coming out as a gender non-conforming person and their journey towards self-acceptance.
