Amita Dhiri

Amita Emmanuelle Dhiri (born 1965) is a British actress known for her roles in various movies and TV shows. She was born in Brighton, England to a French mother and an Ugandan-Indian accountant father. Dhiri comes from the sub caste of the Sood community from Punjab, India. Fluent in French and Hindi, she started her acting career after being approached by a friend to appear in a film for their degree. Before attending drama school, Dhiri performed in a touring cabaret group, impersonating Tina Turner and Janet Jackson. In 1996, she gained recognition for her role as Djamila 'Milly' Nassim in the BBC Two drama series This Life.
