Amy Jean Klobuchar is an American politician and lawyer serving as the senior United States senator from Minnesota since 2007. She is a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) and previously served as the county attorney of Hennepin County, Minnesota. Born in Plymouth, Minnesota, Klobuchar graduated from Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. Prior to her political career, she worked as a partner at two Minneapolis law firms. In 1998, she was elected county attorney of Hennepin County, where she was responsible for all criminal prosecution in the state's most populous county. Klobuchar became Minnesota's first elected female United States senator in 2006 and has been reelected twice since then.
