Amy Newman is an American poet, translator, and professor. She is currently a Presidential Research Professor at Northern Illinois University. Newman holds a Ph.D. in English Literature and Language from Ohio University. She has written five collections of poems, including On This Day in Poetry History, Dear Editor, fall, Camera Lyrica, and Order, or Disorder. These works have garnered recognition, with Dear Editor winning the Lexi Rudnitsky Editor's Choice Award and Camera Lyrica receiving the Beatrice Hawley Award. Newman has been awarded fellowships in poetry from the MacDowell Colony, as well as the Ohio and Illinois Arts Councils. In 2015, she was honored with the Friends of Literature Prize from The Poetry Foundation for her poem "Howl."
