Andrea Navedo (born October 10, 1969) is an American actress and published author. She started her career on the soap operas One Life to Live (1995–1997) and Guiding Light (1999-2000). Navedo has since appeared in numerous supporting roles on primetime television. She is best known for her role as Xiomara 'Xo' Villanueva in The CW comedy-drama series Jane the Virgin (2014-2019). Navedo, a second-generation New York Puerto Rican, grew up in New York City. She graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1988 and earned a B.A. in Communicative and Creative Arts from the State University of New York at Old Westbury in 1998. Navedo's portrayal of Xiomara resonates with her own experiences as the daughter of a young single mother.
