Andrew Mark Cuomo is an American politician, lawyer, and former government official. He served as the 56th governor of New York from 2011 to 2021. Cuomo, a member of the Democratic Party, was elected to the same position his father, Mario Cuomo, held for three terms. Born in Queens, New York City, he graduated from Fordham University and Albany Law School. Cuomo began his career as the campaign manager for his father's 1982 New York gubernatorial election. He later worked in private law practice and chaired the New York City Homeless Commission. Cuomo served in the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development as assistant secretary and later as secretary under President Bill Clinton. He was elected New York attorney general in 2006 after an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic primary in the 2002 New York gubernatorial election.
