Andrew William Stevenson Marr (born 31 July 1959) is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster, known for his career as a political commentator and editor. From 1996 to 1998, he served as the editor of The Independent newspaper. Marr then became the political editor of BBC News from 2000 to 2005. He is also recognized as the host of BBC Radio 4's Start the Week and the political program, The Andrew Marr Show, which began airing on BBC One in September 2005. Marr has presented several historical documentary series, including Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain in 2007 and Andrew Marr's The Making of Modern Britain in 2009. In September 2012, he started hosting Andrew Marr's History of the World. Marr faced health challenges in 2013 when he suffered a stroke and spent two months in the hospital.
