Andrew Sachs (7 April 1930 – 23 November 2016) was a German-born British actor best known for his role as the comical Spanish waiter Manuel in Fawlty Towers. He had a successful career in acting and voice-over work for television, film, and radio, with notable appearances in Quartet and as Ramsay Clegg in Coronation Street. Sachs was born in Berlin and moved to Britain in 1938 to escape the Nazis. He married actress, writer, and fashion designer Melody Lang in 1960 and adopted her two sons. Sachs lived in Kilburn, North London, for the remainder of his life.
