Dame Angela Brigid Lansbury (October 16, 1925 – October 11, 2022) was an Irish-British and American actress and singer. With a career spanning eighty years, she achieved success in film, stage, and television. Lansbury was born in Central London to an Irish actress mother and English politician father. In 1940, she moved to the United States to escape the Blitz and studied acting in New York City. Lansbury's Hollywood career began in 1942, signing with MGM and appearing in films such as Gaslight (1944) and National Velvet (1944). After her MGM contract ended in 1952, she focused on theatrical work and later gained recognition for her role in The Manchurian Candidate (1962). Over the years, Lansbury's work garnered international acclaim and established her as a respected and versatile performer.
