Anika Noni Rose Biography
Anika Noni Rose is an American actress and singer, born on September 6, 1972, in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She gained recognition for her role as Tiana, Disney's first African-American princess, in the animated film The Princess and the Frog (2009). Rose's performance in Dreamgirls (2006) as Lorrell Robinson also brought her acclaim. In the world of theater, she starred as Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway production of Caroline, or Change (2004), winning a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Beneatha Younger in the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun (2014). Rose was named a Disney Legend in 2011. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in theatre from Florida A&M University and has studied drama at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
