Anita Marie Pointer (January 23, 1948 – December 31, 2022) was an American singer and songwriter, best known as a founding member of the vocal group the Pointer Sisters. Born in Oakland, California, she was the lead singer on many of the group's hits, including 'Fairytale', 'Yes We Can Can', 'Fire', 'Slow Hand', and 'I'm So Excited'. Pointer's parents were natives of Arkansas, and she often visited her grandparents there during her childhood. She had a successful career with the Pointer Sisters, receiving a Grammy Award for 'Fairytale' in 1975. Pointer passed away on December 31, 2022.
