Ann Richards
Dorothy Ann Richards, born on September 1, 1933, in McLennan County, Texas, was an American politician and the 45th governor of Texas from 1991 to 1995. Prior to becoming governor, Richards served as the Texas State Treasurer and gained national attention when she delivered the keynote address at the 1988 Democratic National Convention. Known for her outspoken feminism and witty one-liners, she was the second female governor of Texas. Richards began her career as a schoolteacher after graduating from Baylor University and later won election to the Travis County Commissioners' Court. She also delivered a nominating speech for Walter Mondale at the 1984 Democratic National Convention.
