Anne Applebaum

Anne Applebaum is an American and naturalized-Polish journalist and historian, born on July 25, 1964. She is known for her extensive writings on the history of Communism and the development of civil society in Central and Eastern Europe. Applebaum has worked at The Economist, The Spectator, and was a member of the editorial board of The Washington Post from 2002 to 2006. In 2004, she received the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction for her book Gulag: A History. Currently, Applebaum serves as a staff writer for The Atlantic and is a senior fellow at The Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and literature from Yale University.
