Anthony Stephen Fauci (born December 24, 1940) is an American physician-scientist and immunologist. He served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 1984 to 2022. Fauci was also the chief medical advisor to the president from 2021 to 2022. With over fifty years of service in the American public health sector, Fauci is renowned for his expertise and contributions to HIV/AIDS research. He received his undergraduate education at the College of the Holy Cross and his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University. Fauci has been an advisor to every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan and was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008 for his work on the AIDS relief program PEPFAR.
