Anthony Powers Biography
Anthony Powers (born March 13, 1953) is a British composer of classical music. He has received commissions from the BBC, the Three Choirs Festival Society, and various individuals. His works have been performed both in Great Britain and internationally. Powers was shortlisted for a British Composer Award in 2003. Born in London, England, he studied with Elisabeth Lutyens, Harrison Birtwistle, and Nadia Boulanger. He earned a DPhil in Composition from the University of York, where he later became a professor. Powers has taught at Dartington College of Arts and was composer-in-residence at Southern Arts. He held the position of composer-in-residence at Cardiff University and served as Chairman of the Association of Professional Composers.
