Anton Viktorovich Yelchin (March 11, 1989 – June 19, 2016) was an American actor of Russian Jewish descent. He began his career as a child actor, starring in the mystery drama film Hearts in Atlantis (2001) and as a series regular on the Showtime comedy-drama Huff (2004–2006). Yelchin gained recognition for his role in Alpha Dog (2006) alongside Bruce Willis and Justin Timberlake. He achieved further success in 2009, playing Lieutenant Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot and Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation. Yelchin also appeared in independent films such as Like Crazy (2011), Fright Night (2011), and Odd Thomas (2013). He reprised his role as Chekov in the Star Trek sequels Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016).
