Ayo Edebiri (born October 3, 1995) is an American comedian, writer, producer, actress, and voice actress. She gained recognition for her appearances on Comedy Central's Up Next and as the co-host of the podcast Iconography with Olivia Craighead. Edebiri is widely known for her portrayal of Missy on the animated series Big Mouth (2020–present). She has also starred in the television shows The Bear (2022–present) and Abbott Elementary (2023–present). In 2023, Edebiri showcased her acting talents in the films Theater Camp and Bottoms, and lent her voice to the characters in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Born in Boston and raised in a religious Pentecostal household, Edebiri is the child of immigrant parents from Barbados and Nigeria. She discovered her passion for comedy in eighth grade drama class and later joined the improv club at Boston Latin School. Edebiri attended New York University, initially pursuing a teaching degree before switching her major to Dramatic Writing.
