Barry Dennen Biography
Barry Dennen (February 22, 1938 – September 26, 2017) was an American actor and writer. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Pontius Pilate in the original recording and subsequent film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar. Born in Chicago, Illinois on February 22, 1938, Dennen had a significant relationship with Barbra Streisand in New York City from 1960 to 1961, helping her develop her nightclub act. He then moved to London, where he starred as the master of ceremonies in the London version of Cabaret. In 1970, Dennen played Pontius Pilate in the Jesus Christ Superstar album and later reprised the role on Broadway in 1971. He also appeared as Mendel in the film Fiddler on the Roof (1971).
