Basil Harry Hoffman (January 18, 1938 – September 17, 2021) was an American actor known for his extensive film and television career spanning over five decades. Born in Houston, Texas, Hoffman graduated from Tulane University before attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City on a scholarship. He began his career in New York, appearing in numerous plays, episodic television shows, commercials, and films, including a role in 'Lady Liberty' directed by Mario Monicelli. In 1974, Hoffman made his way to Los Angeles, where he starred in films with acclaimed directors such as Alan Pakula and Robert Redford. Throughout his career, he also authored two books about acting, including 'Acting and How to Be Good at It'.
