Beatrice Winde (born Beatrice Lucille Williams; January 5, 1924 – January 3, 2004) was an American actress known for her work as a character actor and singer in theatrical, television, and film roles. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Winde graduated from the Chicago Music Conservatory and continued her voice studies at the Yale University School of Music and at Juilliard. Her notable Broadway appearance was in the 1971 musical Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, which earned her the Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination. Winde also appeared in films such as Oliver's Story and Jefferson in Paris, and made television appearances on The Sopranos and Law & Order. She received awards such as the Audelco Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Living Legend Award from the National Black Theater. Winde passed away from cancer on January 3, 2004, just shy of her 80th birthday.
