    Benjamin Zephaniah Biography
Benjamin Zephaniah is a British writer and dub poet born on April 15, 1958. He was featured in The Times' list of Britain's top 50 post-war writers in 2008. Zephaniah grew up in Handsworth, Birmingham, often referred to as the 'Jamaican capital of Europe.' With a dyslexic condition, he left school at 13 without being able to read or write. However, his passion for writing was ignited when he received an old typewriter as a gift. Influenced by Jamaican music, poetry, and what he calls 'street politics,' Zephaniah's work resonates with Handsworth's Afro-Caribbean and Asian communities. Despite a troubled past that led to a criminal record and prison sentence for burglary, Zephaniah has become an influential figure and celebrated poet.
