Bert Sugar
Herbert Randolph Sugar, better known as Bert Sugar, was an American boxing writer and sports historian. Born on June 7, 1936, in Washington, D.C., Sugar was recognized for his signature fedora hat and unlit cigar. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, where he showcased his talent as a reporter and columnist for the school's newspaper. After graduating in 1953, Sugar went on to earn a JD and MBA from the University of Michigan, following his earlier graduation from the University of Maryland. Throughout his career, he worked in advertising and served as the Publisher-Editor of Baseball Monthly magazine. He also bought and edited Boxing Illustrated magazine and later became the editor of The Ring magazine. In 1998, Sugar founded Bert Sugar's Fight Game. His extensive body of work includes numerous books on boxing and sports history.
