Bertie Carvel, born Robert Hugh Carvel on September 6, 1977, is a British actor known for his notable performances on stage and screen. He is a two-time Laurence Olivier Award winner, receiving the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his portrayal of Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical, and for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his exceptional performance as Rupert Murdoch in Ink. Carvel's talent extends to television, where he has captivated audiences as Jonathan Strange in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Simon Foster in Doctor Foster, and Adam Dalgliesh in Dalgliesh. He also starred in the ITV drama The Sister in 2020. Born in Marylebone, London, Carvel's passion for acting led him to study English at the University of Sussex before attending the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
