    Bethann Hardison is an American fashion model and activist, best known for her pioneering role as one of the first high-profile black models. Her breakthrough came in 1973 when she appeared at the Battle of Versailles fashion show. Hardison has been a vocal advocate for diversity in the fashion industry and has received recognition for her activism, including the 2014 CFDA Founders Award. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hardison attended George W. Wingate High School and briefly worked as a corrections officer before pursuing a career in fashion. She worked in the garment district of New York City during the 1960s and was discovered by designer Willi Smith in 1967. Hardison's son, Kadeem Hardison, is also an actor.
