Betty Comden Biography
Betty Comden (May 3, 1917 – November 23, 2006) was an American lyricist, playwright, and screenwriter. She contributed to numerous Hollywood musicals and Broadway shows of the mid-20th century. Comden had a long-running creative partnership with Adolph Green, making them the longest-running creative partnership in theatre history. They collaborated with notable composers such as Jule Styne and Leonard Bernstein. One of their most successful works was the musical-comedy 'Singin' in the Rain' as part of the famed 'Freed unit' at MGM. Comden, born Basya Cohen in Brooklyn, New York, was a graduate of New York University's drama program. She left a lasting legacy in the world of theater and film.
