William Paul Barretta, born June 19, 1964, is an American puppeteer, actor, producer, writer, and director. He is best known for his work with The Muppets, where he has provided puppetry and voice for beloved characters such as Pepe the King Prawn, Johnny Fiama, Big Mean Carl, and Bobo the Bear. Barretta also took over the roles of Rowlf the Dog, The Swedish Chef, Mahna Mahna, and Dr. Teeth following the passing of Muppet creator Jim Henson. He originated the role of Louie, Elmo's dad, on Sesame Street. Barretta began his career as a carpenter and later met Brian Henson while working at Sesame Place. Since 1991, he has been a key performer with The Muppets.
