    Bill Berry, born William Thomas Berry on July 31, 1958, is an American musician known for his role as the drummer for the alternative rock band R.E.M. In addition to his drumming skills, Berry also played guitar, bass guitar, and piano on R.E.M. albums. He gained recognition for his economical drumming style. In 1995, Berry suffered a cerebral aneurysm while performing onstage, but made a successful recovery. Two years later, he left the music industry to pursue a career in farming. Berry has since maintained a low profile, occasionally reuniting with R.E.M. and contributing to other artists' recordings. After a hiatus, Berry returned to the industry in 2022.
