Bill Maher is an American comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host. Born on January 20, 1956, Maher is best known for hosting the HBO political talk show Real Time with Bill Maher since 2003. He also gained popularity as the host of the late-night show Politically Incorrect, which aired from 1993 to 2002 on Comedy Central and later on ABC. Maher is renowned for his political satire and sociopolitical commentary, covering topics such as religion, political correctness, and the mass media. He directed the 2008 documentary film Religulous, which examines organized religion. Additionally, Maher is an animal rights supporter, serving on the board of PETA since 1997, and an advisory board member of Project Reason. He also advocates for the legalization of cannabis as a member of NORML's advisory board. In recognition of his contributions to comedy, Maher was ranked number 38 on Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time in 2005.
