Bill Thomas, born William Marshall Thomas on December 6, 1941, is an American politician and former actor. He served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 2007. During his tenure, he represented California's 22nd congressional district and held the position of Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. Thomas was born in Wallace, Idaho and later moved to Southern California. He graduated from Garden Grove High School and pursued higher education at Santa Ana College and San Francisco State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in political science. Prior to his political career, Thomas worked as an instructor at Bakersfield College. He is married to Sharon Lynn Hamilton and they have two children. Thomas and his wife are affiliated with the Baptist faith.
