Billy Idol, born William Michael Albert Broad on November 30, 1955, is a British singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He gained prominence as the lead singer of the punk rock band Generation X in the 1970s. After the band disbanded, Idol embarked on a successful solo career, achieving international recognition and becoming a prominent artist during the MTV-driven 'Second British Invasion' in the US. Idol's stage name was inspired by a schoolteacher's description of him as 'idle'. He holds United States citizenship and has released several studio albums throughout his career.
