Bob Lloyd Biography
Bob Lloyd, born Robert E. Lloyd on October 5, 1945, is a retired American professional basketball player known for his time in the American Basketball Association (ABA). Although he was drafted by the NBA's Detroit Pistons in the 7th round of the 1967 NBA draft, Lloyd chose to start his career in the ABA. He began with the New Jersey Americans, which later became the New York Nets and is now known as the Brooklyn Nets. Over his two seasons in the ABA, Lloyd scored a total of 1,127 points, averaging 9.0 points per game. Prior to his professional career, Lloyd played college basketball for Rutgers University, where he became the Scarlet Knights' first-ever First Team All-American. He still holds the school record for career scoring average with 26.5 points per game. In his senior year, Lloyd led NCAA Division I in free throw percentage, making 255-of-277 attempts. His achievements helped Rutgers secure their first-ever postseason appearance in the 1967 National Invitation Tournament.
