Bobby Stewart

Bobby Stewart, also known as 'Irish' Bobby Stewart, is a former professional boxer and trainer. Born and raised in Amsterdam, New York, Stewart gained recognition in the boxing world when he won the National Golden Gloves Tournament in 1974 as a light heavyweight. He turned pro under the management of Matt Baranski and achieved a professional record of 13 wins and 3 losses before leaving the ring in 1977. However, Stewart is best known for being the first trainer of legendary boxer Mike Tyson. Stewart, who was working as a juvenile detention counselor at the time, set conditions for training Tyson, including better behavior and academic achievement. They began working together after Tyson met Stewart's conditions and showed his dedication to the sport.
