Bonnie Gail Franklin (January 6, 1944 – March 1, 2013) was an American actress best known for her leading role as Ann Romano in the television series One Day at a Time (1975–1984). Born in Santa Monica, California, she was the daughter of Jewish immigrants from Russia and Romania. Franklin's career began at a young age, making her first television appearance at the age of 9. She attended Smith College and later UCLA, earning a bachelor's degree in English. Franklin was nominated for Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe Awards throughout her career.
