Boyd Rice
Boyd Blake Rice (born December 16, 1956) is an American composer, performance artist, author, and painter who is known for his contributions to industrial music. He was one of the pioneers of the genre, utilizing techniques of noise, industrial, and electronic music in the 1970s. Rice was also an early user of samplers, making sample-based music before their widespread use. In addition, he was the second person, following John Cage, to use a turntable as a musical instrument. Rice has released vinyl records under the name NON, experimenting with locked grooves and multiple holes, allowing listeners to play them at any speed. Aside from his musical career, Rice is also recognized for his painting and writing.
