Brett Butler (born January 30, 1958) is an American actress, writer, and stand-up comedian. She gained recognition for her role as the title character in the ABC comedy series Grace Under Fire (1993–1998), earning two Golden Globe Awards nominations. Born Brett Anderson in Montgomery, Alabama, she moved to Houston, Texas with her family as a child. Butler's mother battled depression, and the family faced financial hardships. Prior to her comedy career, Butler worked as a cocktail waitress. In 1978, she married Charles Michael Wilson, but left him due to his abusive behavior. Butler is known for her comedic talent and notable TV appearances.
